We’ve also recently updated our architectural photography site, known as places.

So I wanted to make a picture that referenced this, and there happened to be a huge painting in the studio that made a perfect background.

Warren was a friendly guy.  Years ago I had played another project of his, Deus Ex, and there was a fanboy moment.  Then we watched Mickey Mouse cartoons in his office.

Oh hey, we have a new website!

Conceptual work has started on a website redesign.   I’m always looking for new ways to present content… I like depth.   I’ve never been a fan of the old black leather book where you put in 20 or so of your ‘best’ images, and then flipped through pages.  In there a single style looks tidy, but it also feels like a one trick pony.  On the other hand, an overview of many subjects and styles can feel too busy and unsatisfying.  I love the printed page, but the limitless possibilities of digital presentation win me over.

My interests in subject matter and style are pretty varied, so the challenge is to present these images in a cohesive manner where you can get an overview of my work, and then have the ability to drill down into a specific part for a closer look, all while keeping it neat and quick.

Speaking of, here’s a new series.

I’d say that it sums up 2009 pretty well!

Sometimes it’s nice to take a hard left turn from the usual path.

For the past several years, I’ve documented AMODA’s showcases and performances that feature an enormously eclectic assortment of artists and musicians.  As I’m shooting these events, I connect the subconscious mind to my eye and trust it to find moments like these, compose it, adjust the camera settings and take the shot in a fraction of a second – just the opposite of my usual well planned, thoughtfully lit and composed work.  It’s like windex for the creative part of my brain.

It seems like an almost religious atmosphere that can develop in the crowd for brief moments.  There’s more in the Laptop Battle series (in progress), though “religious” might not always be the right word…

I have many, many of these images and moments.  They tell an interesting story about art that is far outside the traditional venues.  Maybe I’ll publish a book one day…
