Sometimes it’s nice to take a hard left turn from the usual path.
For the past several years, I’ve documented AMODA‘s showcases and performances that feature an enormously eclectic assortment of artists and musicians. As I’m shooting these events, I connect the subconscious mind to my eye and trust it to find moments like these, compose it, adjust the camera settings and take the shot in a fraction of a second – just the opposite of my usual well planned, thoughtfully lit and composed work. It’s like windex for the creative part of my brain.
It seems like an almost religious atmosphere that can develop in the crowd for brief moments. There’s more in the Laptop Battle series (in progress), though “religious” might not always be the right word…
I have many, many of these images and moments. They tell an interesting story about art that is far outside the traditional venues. Maybe I’ll publish a book one day…
